A Story of Perseverance, Partnership, and Community Impact 

A recent volunteer event with the Protiviti team became a powerful reminder of what true partnership and community spirit look like. The team arrived at CASL energized and ready to help distribute vital boxes of groceries to seniors across our community, a crucial support many of our older adults rely on each week. 

But the morning took an unexpected turn when the food delivery truck failed to arrive. After a few urgent calls, our partner Nourishing Hope informed us that their logistics provider was experiencing major issues and might need to cancel the route altogether. For a moment, it seemed like the distribution, and the seniors depending on it, might not happen. 

Instead of letting the setback derail the day, both teams immediately sprang into action. 

CASL staff made a series of calls to secure a backup truck, while other team members boarded a CASL bus to drive directly to a distribution site and load additional food that wouldn’t fit in the replacement vehicle. Meanwhile, Protiviti volunteers remained positive, flexible, and deeply committed to finding a solution, demonstrating remarkable patience and teamwork throughout the process. 

What could have been a disappointing cancellation transformed into a heartwarming story of resilience and collaboration. 

Thanks to everyone’s perseverance, creativity, and focus on the mission, CASL and Protiviti successfully delivered meals to more than 90 senior households. Seniors who may have otherwise gone without, received the nourishment and care they count on, all because two teams refused to give up in the face of unexpected challenges. 

The day was filled with moments that demonstrated the heart of our community: 

“As I was walking up the stairs at CASL, I ran into Robert, who is one of our drivers and also supports CASL’s operations. When I told him our seniors’ food delivery was at risk, he didn’t hesitate for a second. He paused his lunch break, asked what we needed, and immediately said, ‘Let’s go.’ With quick approval from our Facilities Director, we jumped into a CASL bus and headed straight to Nourishing Hope. We returned with a full pallet of food, just in time for distribution! That moment reminded me of what makes CASL special: when there’s a need, we step in together. No obstacle is too big when the mission is centered on our seniors.”
