ComEd Volunteers Beautify Chinatown, Give Back to CASL’s Adult Day Services Garden

ComEd employees traded their offices for garden gloves, joining CASL for a day of neighborhood cleanup and garden planting in Chicago’s Chinatown.

More than a dozen ComEd and Exelon volunteers gathered outside CASL’s Kam L. Liu Building, where they swept sidewalks, cleared litter, and refreshed the planters and green spaces surrounding the building. The team then turned its attention to CASL’s Adult Day Services garden, planting flowers and freshening up the space that clients use throughout the week.

“The Exelon Team enjoyed the great weather, camaraderie, and the ability to give back to the Chinatown community while beautifying the CASL garden,” said Frank Scumacci, Director of Customer Solutions and Experience at ComEd.

Volunteers spent the morning digging, potting and watering, filling containers with marigolds, petunias, geraniums and salvia. By the afternoon, the garden was transformed — a burst of color for CASL’s clients and staff to enjoy all summer.

The event is part of a longer-running partnership between CASL and ComEd, which also joined a Chinatown cleanup last fall. Corporate volunteer days like this one help CASL maintain the public spaces its community relies on, while giving partner employees a firsthand look at the neighborhood and services CASL supports.

CASL is grateful to ComEd for showing up with time, energy and heart — and for helping keep Chinatown’s streets and gardens looking their best.
